WELCOME

The Napsugár Puppet Theatre, an intellectual puppet workshop of international reputation in County Békés awaits for puppet artsits from all over the world for the 15th occasion. It is an important value for our county and we are proud of Konrád Lenkefi who initiated the organization of these festivals, as the leader of the Napsugár Puppet ensemble. This gave the bedrock of reputation and the international rank to festivals where puppetteers come with pleasure.

The puppet festival is accompanied by complementary programmes: puppet making and puppet performances in the street, symphony concerts, folklore performances, dance-house nights, or also displays of the fine and applied arts, folk arts and puppet arts.

Self-government of County Békés supports the festival from the beginnings since it is such a stunning spectacle in the cultural life of the county which deserves special attention.

County Békés offers numerous places of interest and freetime activities for anyone interested beside the puppet festival. It is worthy to discover the beauties and values of the county, the undistrubed waterlife in the Körös-valley, the opportunities offered by the rural and horse-riding tourism, and also worth trying our thermal baths.

In the renewed Munkácsy Mihály Museum in Békéscsaba can the largest collecion of Munkácsy’s works be found, including special relics of the famous painter. Here you can also watch a special three dimensional film – the first in Hungary – which represents the wildlife of the Körös-valley.

It is worth-while to taste those local foods which may give real culinary delights to gourmets.

We warmly welcome everybody who wants to be a partaker of a demandingly organized international event, where the Békés County Sunshine Puppet Theatre wishes you „sunshined” days.

President of Békés County Board of Representatives

Dear Puppetteers and Friends of Puppets!

On behalf of the Hungarian Centre of the UNIMA (UnionInternational de la Marionnette) we invite and await you with warm welcome for the Békéscsaba International Puppet Festival, that has been an event under our patronage since 1968. This means that correspondently to the fundamental aim of the UNIMA – building and caring domestic and international puppetteer links – does everything in order that the festival beside a high-grade parade of Hungarian productions would also give a comprehensive view about contemporary puppetteering and tries to organize various complementary programmes – conference, exhibition – in this spirit.

We would like, if this festival were such an event, where puppetry, beside showing itself up to the world, would find pleasure in togetherness with its own community. The word festivalcomes form the Latin noun festum and means holiday.

Let’ celebrate together then!

Papp Eszter
President of UNIMA Hungarian Centre
